Had to replace a mobo and cpu in an Emachines. *Wal-Mart piece of ....* The new mobo is running a different chip set than the old one. When I boot the system it runs fine until I choose to start Windows normally. I get a blue screen after that. Safe mode..blue screen...safe mode with comand promp...blue screen. I then tried boot it to the CD rom with an Authentic Windows xp home w/service pak 2 OEM cd in. It will start the setup process. When it goes to the blue screen with grey border on bottom and grey windows startup in top left corner It will start up but then freeze while trying to load a file. I get the following error message.

File \i386\vgaoem.foc could not be loaded.
    Error code 7
    Cannot continue setup

No matter what options I try, the system won't even let me get to a C: prompt or anything. The hard drive does have Windows xp home installed already. Any clues?

Sounds like the CD is sractched or dirty. You were on the right track to boot to it though. A repair will fix this.
