    Hi Guys

When i try to navigate to a folder in C drive where I have kept all of my movies, after opening the folder having the movies, within 3-4 sec a message comes that "Windows Explorer has experienced a problem and needs to close. Send an error report." and the folder disappers.

i tried to defragment the drive but after that also the problem persists. deframentation result says that about 15 movies files couldn't be defragmented.

Kindly advice what should I do now to solve this problem.

    Regards
    Gene

You can try one of two things:

    1. Check your codecs by going to your control panel, then sounds and audio devices, next click the hardware tab and select video codecs and properties. Check through them one by one. This is where your problem lies most likely. If you have Divx 6.0, you may want to remove it and use Divx 5.2.1 here, http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=4297

    2. Open a command window (Start > Run, type in 'cmd' hit enter)
To remove media preview, type regsvr32 /u shmedia.dll and hit enter.

NOTE: This will disable your Thumbnail Preview, so if you use it I would suggest you use the first suggestion.

    Let us know.

Sorry for the delay Gene, we have a storm passing thru and I keep getting knocked off.

Click Start > Run > type msconfig , click the startup tab and untick WMP from starting.

Kind of hard to tell from the txt file. I don't have WMP so I really don't know what to tell you to look for, didn't really see anything I would identify as WMP.

Another member might can tell you what to look for. I do know that sometimes spyware can cause it to open on startup, just something to think about if you don't get it sorted.

yes Steve thats what i was to tell u, i put some google search n found that this may b related to spyware. actually few months back when the pc got infected with spywares after then from this prob started. i removed all spywares with help of "spyware specific" forum but this prob was not fixed at that time.
shud i talk in the spyware section?

I am assuming that step#2 is for windows XP users.

Is there a way to disable media player previews in explorer for Windows 2000?

Sorry for hijacking this tread. :p

Go into the registry (regedit) and go to hkey local_machine/software/Microsoft/Windows/Run, and remove WMP (or rename it so it lays dormant). Also, double check the WMP options, there might be an "auto-start" feature enabled (I don't remember one, but maybe)

    Good luck,
    DCO

I am not a geek but a 67 y/o great grandmother. So every time you start with computer speech I do not know what you are talking about. I have learned what I know about computer by myself. I have these constant crashes every time I try to go to a new page. INTERNET EXPLORER HAS STOPPED WORKING. Sometimes it will go on and sometimes I have to restart computer to get rid of it as it freezes. I have tried dozens of malware removal and does not help even says I have no malware etc. I get jerky start and stop when I try to view videos or Utube. I am so frustrated I am ready to throw the computer out the front door. In human language could someone HELP.
