Windows Explorer has encountered an error

    I've had Dr Watson pop up on me about 50 times in the past day. I tried to download a game (which will remain nameless) and I couldn't open it without Dr. Watson butting in. I also get an error when I go to open MyComputer (it's a syster32.dll error) and I can't even open my Defrag. I was even running DKLite and they stopped working mysteriously... so I'm running sfc/scannow at the moment. I was told by my dad that I should try reinstalling windows from scratch but I cannot find my discs since the move in the spring. Is that my only hope?

    Hi


    See what System File Checker finds, but likely if it finds corrupt files, you will still need your Windows CD.

    Boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot ) and see if you get same errors.

    Also I would run some malware scans as malware could cause events like this, if you do find any malware with your scans then pop into the malware forum of this site, run the Read Me Guide and then start a new thread and attach your logs.

    Are you sure you don't want to just come over and fix the ol' PC for me?? Pretty please???
    hehe.
    I'll run Ad-Aware SE and see if I can't get anything.

    ok, so I opened up SpywareBlaster and it told me to uninstall it so I can install v4.1. I downloaded that from this site and now I cannot open the new download because of that pesky DrWatson. So what do I do now? Any new program or game that I download lands on my desktop, tempting me to open it... so I click on it and DrWatson pops up and says "Oh no no my dear, you just waited for 20min-1hour for that download and you think you're going to open it?? HA!"
    Accordingly, Explorer runs into an error and wants to shut down. Directly behind that window DrWatson is sticking his nose where it doesn't belong.
    What do I do?
