windows explorer has stopped working

hi, this problem has been happening for a long while now and am just a bit tired of it.
while using some programs, windows or add-ons, they will stop and the "windows explorer has stopped working" window will appear.
i have sent this info to microsoft numerous times hoping they would fix the problem with an update but to no avail. seems i am not the only one with this problem.
i run spyware doctor and antivir (big thanks to major geeks) and they have not detected any viruses.
please help?

Hi

Which version of Windows you using?

Its likely to be a conflicting or broken application, add-one etc, not always easy to trace the cause, but few things....

1. Boot into Safe Mode (F8 at boot) and using applications that normally would crash, do they still crash.

2. In Event Viewer at the time of a crash, are there any references to what crashed and the Event ID code, generally in Windows Logs and Application or System.

3. Please name all the security software you have on your PC,

4. What version of Spyware Doctor do you have the one with Antivirus built in? also try disabling Intelli Guard in Spyware Doctor to test if its causing an explorer crash when both scanners in SD and Antivir are scanning same files, as well as disabling SD fully to see if a conflict is happening with Antivir.
