Windows firewall problems w/ online games

Within the last week or so I have been having connectivity issues with online games and voip, namely EVE Online, Battlefield BadCompany 2 , Team Speak and Ventrilo.

The only thing out of place is when I was on youtube the other day on Pompaloose's page (cool music). I clicked a link on their page to a page with an (admittidley) goodlooking girl on it (no porn allowed on this computer before you ask). My computer made a funny ding sound and restarted. Since then the "normal" windows sounds have been different.

I always log into to either game and a voip as well and lately I will lose connection to both within a matter or minutes. Trying to play is becoming futile. I am not very savy when it comes to computers but I did try my own troubleshooting. ie : Avast scan, Malwarebytes, Glary Utilities, System restore...nothing found on any scans.

After the restore the windows sounds are back to "normal" but the connection woes still persist. I began to inspect my firewall and disabled it all together as a test. I connected to EVE and Ventrilo then TeamSpeak with no loss of connection. I am not convinced it is a virus but I could be wrong.

I have had no system update either, mine are all set to manual. I am running Windows 7 and have a KillerXeno Network Interface Card with the firewall off on it (has never been on).

Thank you for any help you can provide.

ok, so 69 views and two days and no one will touch this topic?

anyway, I didn't think about it before but I reset all the setting in my windows firewall and everything worked fine for about a day. Now I am back to being disconnected from teh games I am playing. Last night inparticular the whole internet connetion just dropped. I have another computer on the same network that could not connect as well.

I called my ISP and they claim my service shold be working as they see no problems with my service or my modem? Could I have a bad router???

    Hi

As its the holidays you may get alot of views but they maybe just guests who can view and not reply, so as many folk are with family etc it may take a short while longer for a reply.

It could well be a bad router, especially if another PC had same issue, have you turned it off and back on again, or reset it to defualt settings then re-add any custom settings back that are needed from your ISP?

Can your ISP not check out your router, if its the one they supplied many will do some tests on it for connectivity (or may just be my ISP that can do this ISP = O2 UK). You dont have a spare router to test do you?

I would also if I read your post correct, do a Windows update and see what updates are listed as iirc a couple where for network issues.

Have you checked to see if a Driver update is available for your network card HERE

You could also try and Port forward a few ports in your router if it allows you for the games as well as trying them in the Windows Firewall

    BF2 is HERE
and how to open them in Win7 Firewall HERE

If that works ok then just search fo the port to open in the other games, their online support FAQs should tell you or search HERE

Your connection comes and goes for two computers at the same time, it sure does sound like the router.

That you can get your connection to come back with disabling the windows firewall is not consistent though. If you have the option to connect one computer to the modem and leave windows firewall enabled, test that and see if the issues stop. That would be my next step before trying anymore computer fixes or buying a router.
