Hi, I'm new to this site and I desperately need help.

I am currently running my cpu in Safe Mode with Networking because it won't work at all running Windows normally. As soon as I start, it almost immediately locks up.

This malware infection has disabled many important Windows functions. For example, when I try to run System Restore, absolutely nothing happens and the system freezes.

I read the README and followed all the steps as best I could. The only step I could not complete was running MGtools. I ran as administrator, but I got the error message "Process id+0x5ac (1452), Thread id=0x1cc (460). Click OK to terminate the application. Click CANCEL to debug the application."

I tried to follow the rest of the instructions but I was having a hard time understanding. I'd be happy to run the tools with some guidance. Specifically, I do not understand the step when they said "Click Start, then click Explorer," as I do not see an option for Explorer!

All the other logs are posted below. I believe a lot of the malware has been removed but that the system has been damaged, I wish I had System Restore to go back to how it was before. I haven't been able to use my computer in over a week! Please help!!!

Please rename C:\MGTools.exe to kf55.com. Try and run it again. Attach the C:\MGlogs.zip if you were successful. Otherwise see if you can run the below as I need more information.

    Download OTL to your desktop.

    • Double click on the icon to run it. Make sure all other windows are closed and to let it run uninterrupted.
    • Vista and Windows 7 users Right-click OTL and choose Run as Administrator)
    • When the window appears, underneath Output at the top change it to Minimal Output.
    • Check the boxes beside LOP Check and Purity Check.
    • Click the Run Scan button. Do not change any settings unless otherwise told to do so. The scan wont take long.

When the scan completes, it will open two notepad windows. OTL.Txt and Extras.Txt. These are saved in the same location as OTL.

Attach both of these logs into your next reply.

All right, I renamed MGtools as you directed, I ran the scan but the same aforementioned error occurred.

So I downloaded OTL, ran as per your instructions, and have attached the two logs. I think I forgot to mention earlier, I'm running Vista 64-bit if that makes any difference going forward.

Not necessary! I expect that MGtools ran and the log exists and needs to be attached. The error is in processdll.exe and possibly with not having .NET framework installed.

Ah I should have spotted that. Thanks Chas.

I believe you are right! I just checked and I see the zip folder. I don't know if the logs are complete or whatever because of the error, but I will attach what I have here!

I am not seeing anything that stands out in your logs.

Now Copy the bold text below to notepad. Save it as fixME.reg to your desktop. Be sure the "Save as" type is set to "all files" Once you have saved it double click it and allow it to merge with the registry.

Make sure that you tell me if you receive a success message about adding the above
to the registry. If you do not get a success message, it definitely did not work.

    Also run this:

Go to TDSSKiller and Download TDSSKiller.zip to your Desktop

    • Extract its contents to your Desktop so that you have TDSSKiller.exe directly on your Desktop and not in any subfolder of the Desktop.
    • Now double click the TDSSkiller.exe file to run it ( if using Vista or Windows 7 do not double click on it but rather, right click and select Run As Administrartor.
    • Allow the application to run and a window will open showing that it is TDSSkiller from Kaspersky
    • Click Start scan
    • It will run rather quickly and will notify you of whether anything is found or not.
    • Follow the instructions to delete/quarantine if asks you what to do when if finds something.
Whether an infection is found or not, a log file should be created on your C: drive ( or whatever drive you boot from) in the root folder named something like TDSSKiller.2.1.1_27.12.2009_14.17.04_log.txt which is based on the program version # and date and time run. Please attach this log to your next reply. (See: HOW TO: Attach Items To Your Post )

Okay I ran the regedit, and I got the success message, so that worked.

I downloaded TDSS, ran, and will attach the log.

An update on the overall status of my machine. I am still running in Safe Mode, because Windows still crashes within a few seconds when I run in Normal Mode.

I still cannot do some normal things in Windows, like Save documents in Word, and run System Restore (I was not going to execute it since I haven't been instructed, but I wanted to see if it would load and it did not)

I recommend that you go ahead and post in the software forum about your problems. If we renamed tools, such as MGTools.exe to what I told you to rename it to, rename it back to MGTools.exe now.

If you are not having any other malware problems, it is time to do our final steps:
    1. We recommend you keep SUPERAntiSpyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware for scanning/removal of malware. Unless you purchase them, they provide no protection. They do not use any significant amount of resources ( except a little disk space ) until you run a scan.
    2. If we had you use ComboFix, uninstall ComboFix (This uninstall will only work as written if you installed ComboFix on your Desktop like we requested.)
      • Click START then RUN and enter the below into the run box and then click OK. Note the quotes are required
      • "%userprofile%\Desktop\combofix" /uninstall
        • Notes: The space between the combofix" and the /uninstall, it must be there.
        • This will uninstall ComboFix and also reset hidden files and folders settings back to Windows defaults.
    3. Go back to step 6 of the READ ME and renable your Disk Emulation software with Defogger if you had disabled it.
    4. Any other miscellaneous tools we may have had you install or download can be uninstalled and deleted.
    5. If we had you download any registry patches like fixme.reg or fixWLK.reg (or any others), you can delete these files now.
    6. If running Vista, it is time to make sure you have reenabled UAC by double clicking on the C:\MGtools\enableUAC.reg file and allowing it to be added to the registry.
    7. Go to add/remove programs and uninstall HijackThis.
    8. Goto the C:\MGtools folder and find the MGclean.bat file. Double click on this file to run this cleanup program that will remove files and folders
related to MGtools and some other items from our cleaning procedures.
    9. If you are running Win 7, Vista, Windows XP or Windows ME, do the below:
      • Refer to the cleaning procedures pointed to by step 7 of the READ ME
for your Window version and see the instructions to Disable System Restore which will flush your Restore Points.
      • Then reboot and Enable System Restore to create a new clean Restore Point.
    10. After doing the above, you should work thru the below link:

Okay, I ran the cleanup steps... well, all except purging System Restore, which I couldn't do since my system acts like it no longer exists. I will now post in the Software Forum as you suggested.

I just wanted to thank you for helping me. Even though I have more work to do, I appreciate the time and effort. It's a wonderful thing you guys do, everyone who helps fight malware. Malware victims get really upset when their machines, worth hundreds of dollars, are damaged... it's really terrible and unfair. So here's to you! Best of luck, take care.
