Hi all I really need help from some of the knowledgable folks around here.

My Desktop = AMD Athlon XP 2800+ chip, XP Pro with SvcPk2, IE-6, 1G RAM, C drive = 40G, D drive = 120G, Display Adapter is Nvidia GeForce 5200 128megs, Sony DVD double layer, dual format burner and DVD-ROM.

My Problem = about a month ago I wanted to look at 2 web sites at the same time. I opened 2 windows in IE6, selected both on the task bar, right clicked and chose Tile Horizontally and it worked just fine. When I was finished I used the red X and shut both windows. Now I can't get the horizontal tiling to shut off. I frequently open more than one instance of IE6 or maybe I only have 1 running but I click on a link and another window opens. Either way the results are the same, the second window is horizontally tiled on the top of my View Sonic 17" monitor. I can maximize the window in the usual ways, but I shouldn't have to do that.

Intentionally opening a second IE6 window to view another web site or clicking on a link that opens another window, should not result in the second window being horizontally tiled. Does anybody know how to make this stop? I've tried everything I can think of, including going through the steps to create the horizontal tile and then shutting it off, but it still won't stop. The second window continues to be tiled horizontally.

Any help will be much appreciated, I'm getting very frustrated.

    Thanks, Mike

Try opening 2 windows of IE so that they are tiled, then actually drag one of them to full size, minimze that one down and drag the other to full size, close them both.
Hopefully windows will remember that you want your windows full size.
Open 2 windows of IE again, and if you are lucky they will both come up full screen instead of being tiled.

    Yugku,

I was thinking along the lines of a Registry entry of some kind that was making this happen, but I just did as you suggested. Opened 1 window in IE6 and surfed to another site, opened the 2nd window and stayed at my home page. Then maximized each window using the maximize box, then closed the window.

Then opened 6 windows in IE6 and it seems to be fine for now. :)

I'll post back if it happens again.

    Thanks for your help.

 I said I'd post back if my problem with horizontally tiled web pages persisted and here I am only hours later posting back because the same thing is still happening.

Specifically when I'm on a web site and click a link on the page, any page of any site, it's not limited to any one web site, the window that opens up is tiled horizontally at the top of my screen and I have to maximize it to see the entire window.

I think this sounds like a Registry problem but I'm not a Registry guru. Does anybody have any other ideas I can try? All help fill definitely be appreciated.

    Thanks in advance.

    Hi DragonRider,

When you right click the taskbar is the checkmark next to Tile windows horizontally?

    Bad out.

    Bad,

Thanks for the thought, but that's one of the first things I looked at. The answer is No, it's next to Lock Taskbar like it should be.

This will reset remembered IE window position.
    Close IE.
    Start>Run enter "regedit" no quotes.
    Drill down to
    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main\
Right click and delete the key that says Window_Placement.
    Start IE.
Let me know if this gets it.
    Bad out.

    Plan B, possibly

Open 2 explorer windows and maximixe them.
    Rightclick taskbar, select Tile Horizontally.
    Do they tile?
    Right click taskbar again.
Do you not have the selection Undo Tile right below Show the desktop?

    Bad out.
