Windows Install Error

Ok I am running out of ideas. I am trying to re-install windows after replacing a motherboard. When Windows Setup starts I get the error:

stop: 0x00000023 (0x000e0100, oxf8983ef8, 0xf8983bf8, 0x823f0bac)

I can't even reformat the hard drive since I can't get into Windows Setup. Is there a way to erase the HD without Windows? Or is the Hard Drive just a paper weight now?

I was getting a different error until I pulled a 512mb stick of ram out leaving the system with 512mb. Apparently my stick of ram that was fine 2 days ago just felt like dying.

 

Are you using an OEM version of XP to reinstall?

This will wipe the hard drive but I would use it as a last resort.

I have an OEM disk of Windows XP, Retail version of Vista Home Premium, and OEM preinstall disk. All three error out when Windows Setup is starting.

 

Because you replaced the board the OEM wont work, but the vista should.

Have you checked out the board itself? All is wired up and seated properly?

You might get better help in the hardware forum, it doesn't really sound like the problem is the disks.

The error that you posted comes back as a FAT file system error in the quick search that I tried. If you try reformating it might help. Maybe you should wipe the drive and see if it helps.

 

Yeah, check your connections. If you been inside the case and get a STOP message that is where I would look. Check the HDD cables also.

Well I erased the Hard Drive and still get an error when the Vista Install starts. I double checked all the cables and connections in the case. Everything appears to be fine.
