Windows Installer Alternative ???

    could you link me to the fixes mentioned here concerning a broken installer, or show me how to run via a browse for choice of programs. I also could not install the newer version of Windows installer. It seems I have virus troubles.

    Moved to new thread, original HERE as that thread is old, while some links are sitll active, some because of age are not available sadly.

    Are you using Windows XP, Vista or Windows 7 as the fixes could be different than that offered in 2007?

    Did you try the first 3 links in that thread above as they are all active still?

    Latest installer now is Windows Installer 4.5 HERE if you cannot install in normal or safe mode then please tell us what the error messages are as to why it will not install, if you are running Windows 7 then this may need different approach as it uses Windows Installer 5.0


    If you have virus troubles then you will need to follow the below to help you remove malware if your PC is working in normal or safe mode to allow running of the scans.

    I am trying to install Windows Installer 3.1 from USB memory stick to run from it in the broken XP install. It automatically installs without my choice of drive, any solution? I want to run 3.1 from the USB memory to install it in the damaged system, since I have a good laptop next to my damaged desktop.

    I took a link to Microsoft and downloaded a new installer, and found by the third option down, Start, worked, instead of a double click or run... so it works 95% and I downloaded Open Office. Still a lot of damage though.
