Hey, im working on a Panasonic toughbook here with windows XP SP1,Centrino based, with a wireless mouse (USB) and a USB pen, with a DVD/CDR drive.

Now, the problem weve been having is that when installing anything, in this case either adobe photoshop on a CD, or eTrust antivirus which we downloaded (the TRIAL version), is that you get the screen where its extracting stuff (apparently) but then it doesnt launch into the actual installer. Why on earth might this be?
    Thanks for any insight!

EDIT : Aha.. when we shut down and closed somthing called "Sample" and the installer popped up just before it shut down

Oh,right.. beter give you an update:

Ive found that there was one process that was stopping installers from starting.... it was zCfgSvc.. which happens to be the wireless zero configuration service... however, since this laptop is on a wireless connection, if i stop it nothing works wireless.

The info i need now is how to set up the connection so that i dont have to use zero config so that installers work AND it will go on the net wirelessly.

    Good luck.

Drivers using wireless zero generally dont have any other way to be configured.

I think the important thing is to fix the problem, more than to work around it.

If you don't have it fixed by the time I get home, Ill ship you my Wireless Zero regkey and have you import it.

Another possibility is hunting down msicuu.exe on the MS site and uninstalling anything related to the wireless card.

Oh dear... well, ive had to make do an say that if you need to install anything end that process first.... Ugh... i wonder what could possibly be causing that problem? come to think of it on my first search of the KB i saw somthing about wireless, ill post it if i find it!

    EDIT : http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;309495#appliesto
That just says i need SP1, but ive already got sp1? hmm... searches further

Hmm, check out zCfgSvc there.. seems like its an Intel thing :/
Im going to suggest she changes the name of the file. turning off Zero Config all together killed the connection, but when i ended the task it seemed to still work, so we can try that
