Hi I am running a Dell Inspirion laptop. OS is Win 7 Home premium 64 bit. This morning when I turned the computer on it did something it has never done before. I have my update status from Microsoft to notify me and let me choose when to update. The computer seemed to be updated and then said "Windows Is Cleaning your computer". I have never seen that happen before. Can someone tell me why that happened? Thanks in advance.

This month there were 8 or 9 kernel updates. After the computer updates, it cleans up. Then when it is restarted it also cleans up because the kernel is the heart of the operating system. This is normal for kernel updates.

Alt. scenario: Windows Update rolled out a new feature to W7 in a minor update that improved the Disk Cleanup wizard by adding a check box for Windows Update Cleanup, it's possible that you ran this with the new check box ticked before you shut down last.

The cleanup runs as normal but the new addition doesn't complete until after a reboot on first run.
