I recently formatted and installed Windows 7. It's been working amazingly and I installed all programs perfectly. I've been having some problem installing Windows Live Messenger though. I downloaded the latest version from the Windows Live website, when I choose to install the Messenger, it gets to the "Downloading Messenger" and it stops, gives me this error:
    "We couldn't install Messenger"
"Try downloading and installing these programs again. One of the installation files appears to be corrupted. hr:0x800b0004"
I've tried using Windows Install Clean Up and trying to install again and it is no use.
    Any help is appreciated.

I checked out the requirements on the support website and I don't think I have any problem with them.

No, your specs are way above what's needed for WLM.

Did you download it from here? If not, try it.

Hey there, thanks a lot. I downloaded the file you told me about before from another website, but I was having the error code 80040154 so I thought that it must have been from the file. I re-downloaded it from the link you gave me and it did the same thing. So I looked up the error code and found that if you download the contacts-ship-neutral.cab it works. So I gave it a shot and it passed the Signing in part. But I got another problem which was error 81000306.
So I looked up again and I used this method:
If you are using Windows Vista(It worked for Windows 7 too!), disable the Auto Tuning Networking feature:
    a. Click Start, click All Programs, click Accessories, and then right-click Command Prompt and choose Run as administrator.
    b. Click Continue when Windows requests permission to continue.
    c. At the command prompt, type the following command, and then press ENTER:
netsh interface tcp set global autotuninglevel=disabled

    It finally worked! :-D

I was wondering though do you have any idea why this was happening? Like it installed fine when I used Vista.
    Thanks again.

I'm pleased you found the fix :) I dont know why that should have happened though.

One of my pet peeves is the number of default active protocols and networking Services enabled by default on modern Windows installs; I start with basic TCP/IP and work slowly up until I have what I need to do my day to day computing, any more is a drag on traffic and possibly less secure.

    Hi

To your question on why, then some routers have problems with how TCP/IP has changed in Windows 7 and more over the change in size to the TCP size window and either need a firmware update to latest or to have autotuning disabled in the opertating system, to the things satrow mentions. Info Here under more info and cause

    Cheers for posting your fix.
