Windows Live Messenger

    My daughter uninstalled W L Messenger last week as she said there was a virus in it. Everytime my son tries to reinstall it everything goes smoothly until you click Install and a message comes up saying that you seem to be offline. We are definately online having just downloaded WLM and all settings showing that we are still online. Can anyone help

    Hi

    Which Windows version you using?

    Which version of WLM have you installed? ( is it Build 8.5.1302.1018 goto Help > About to find out )

    Does it give you an error code with the message of being offline? if so what is the code and exact message text as they generally aim you in the right direction of the fix.

    Windows XP Pro SP2
    I just tried to install it again and it failed saying ( The older version of WLM cannot be removed.

    Hi

    Are you logged in as Admin on that PC? if not do so and try again.

    Also check and uninstall WLM from Add/Remove instead, if that doesnt work then try the below uninstall command text

    Click Start > Run > and type RunDll32 advpack.dll,LaunchINFSection %windir%\inf\msmsgs.inf,BLC.Remove
