I was wondering if anyone had a link to an old school Msn Messenger? When I tried to log in it only gave option of updating.... It updated to gay live version.. I get tired of all this stuff when all I need is a simple window version of it. Anyways it worked fine for little bit. Now when I try to log in it just keeps going sometimes stops, even tho my info is correct and I tried several times, and even checked by signing into my email account. SO I eventually repaired it just for heck of it - nothing happen. I then uninstalled and re installed - nothing new. Tried download.com for old school version and it gave me live the newest! So I don't get why ghetto thing wont run.. and I want to change back.

theres alot of reasons that they have updated versions. most important is security. If you don't like the newest version, then you might want to try one of the free all-in-one IM clients, like Pidgin, or trillian

Maybe I am dumb or something. But I for some reason wanted to get ahold of someone on Msn Messenger. And I havnt had it for long time and new it was windows live messenger now instead of normal old version msn messenger that i liked. So I looked up my old thread for an old version. I had windows live messenger. Anyways my question is I download windows live new version or any windows live and it says to type in email(example shows blank@hotmail.com) well I assume I can use my hotmail.com account but when I sign in just sits and waits forever(I know its the right password and etc.. and it works) so I uninstall windows live and try some of these older version in this thread.. All version Ive downloaded so far say when I sign in says there update to window click okay or cancel I click cancel nothing I click okay it downloads windows live. I dont want live! I want old version that simple. Anybody have any suggestions on older version? Also does windows live messenger accept hotmail.com people to log in?

I was wondering if there was any older version of windows messenger that wouldnt make me have to update it when I installed it for windows xp?
Because when I installed windows live it says to sign in and I use hotmail.com account and it just sits there thinking so I close out. Does windows live messenger not work with my hotmail.com email? The example in windows live is hotmail.com email.

Sadly not that I know of as once you connect to the Messenger network it knows the version you have and suggests the update, you could try Digsby (free) its an multi IM client, actually very good one too.

You can also look at this in order to run a later version than what you ended up with...in the MG software messaging forum look for the WLM no-update patch (released just days ago), and see if this will allow you to run a later version of WLM...the patch specifies what versions it works with. Then locate your preferred version from file hippo dot com. Once you click on the latest version of WLM there, it will show you what older versions can be downloaded. This might work, unless one must already have the patch-compatible version installed. Good luck and if you're successful post back as I and others might want to go this route too.

i would not suggest using an older version of an IM client. Most updates are for security reasons, and with IM software, security is a big threat. Might want to keep that in mind while using it.

There have been plenty of issues with the latest WLM update. Some cant get it to work, or different parts of it fail, such as voice. These issues have never been properly addressed. Another issue is that for some people, PCTools firewall messes with it. So for some, using an older version is about their only method of making it work. :(
