was about to install Windows Live Messenger on my new pc then i saw an app on here -"Clean Messenger". Then i noticed on th download page for messenger it says i dont have to install it, i can use Windows Live Hotmail for chatting!
So whats best? should i install it & this 'clean messenger' or just use live hotmail which i suppose keeps my pc quicker & cleaner?

    Hi

If I'm honest just install and run the latest version of Windows Live Messenger as its fully upto date with any security issues that Messenger may have had as that "clean messenger" app is from 2006 so very old and one I will mention to be removed from the listings as ita a reminent of a file that doesnt exist now, try and download and it will 404 error (not found)

All this app did was to remove specific parts of the old messenger like the advert boxes, some menus etc, alot of which can be done from within Messengers menus now.

ok this is slightly weird. i downloaded it from here & installed it, but it didnt put any icons on the decktop or open the program, i did a search & found msnmsgr in Windows Live folder in program files. but if i try to open it i get a message saying it has failed because the configuration is incorrect. so i downloaded it from the windows live website & the installer tells me i have messenger already installed. So i deleted messenger & try again but it still tells me i already have it?
    What do i do now??

Go to control panel, then programmes, then add/remove programmes, then see if messenger is there, if so then download Revo Uninstaller , and remove messenger using the advanced option, deleting all traces of it.

If not, then go to your download folder, and remove all traces of messenger you can find.

Then go to My computer, your primary drive (most likely C: ) then Programme files, then find messenger, delete that folder, then empty the recycle bin.

    Then redownload the programme.

If i was unclear anywhere in my instructions then just ask;).

    g'day mccarthyx

you will need to uninstall windows live essentials from the add and remove programs menu. if this program is still there it will keep telling you that you have windows live messenger installed.
