Windows logs on then off! Please send HELP!

I have Dell, Service Pack 2, Adaware, Spybot, A^2, and AVG.

I have done your outline for problems just 2 days ago.

This morning I tried to log on and my desktop shows, no desktop icons and then Windows logged me off! I tried again and then the security icon pops up and says it needs to download security updates 1-5. I allow it (my first mistake?).

After that it shuts down, I reboot and the same thing...shows my desktop then logs off. Since I keep a hard copy of your cleaning instructions, I reboot in Safemode (tapping F8 because I can't log on the reg way) and still...shows desktop, then logs off!


A few days ago while cleaning my computer (I do this about 4-5 times a week because I'm paranoid lilke this ) I ran Spybot, Ad-aware, and A^2. A^2 was the only one to show that 2 email worms had been detected and it removed them. I didn't open or install anything from my email but there is another user on my computer.

Can you tell me what to do? I can't even log on using Safemode.

Please, send the reinforcements!

You can't even log into the 'Administrator Account' in Safe Mode?

 

No! As soon as I log in, it logs me right off again. Please tell me what to do. Could the problem be my monitor? Thanks so much for a speedy reply.

 

I am using someone else's computer, so I can't stay on line. Will somebody please leave suggestions as to what I should try to fix my problem. Any help is greatly appreciated, and I will check back later for any responses- Please.

If you are unable to log into any account without the system rebooting, then you will have to reinstall your system. We can't clean any infections if the computer won't stay on.

Download the Knoppix Live CD create a bootable CD from the image file. Boot your computer with the CD. You'll be able to recvoery and save any data you need using Knoppix.

When I try to reinstall I get two options:

1) FAT with only 65MB which says it's not enough to install Windows (Really?)

2)Some other technical sounding one with 75,659 MB which tells me tha I already have an OS on my computer and it's dangerous to instal another one...yadda, what-not.

There is also an option to delete one of the above which I'm not going to do until I get a response back from you (or another mod). Can you tell me which one to delete so I can reinstall XP?

Hmmm, with all the defenses I have on my computer, the hackers still break through! Are we fighting a losing battle?

 

If you are going to do a 'Clean' install; then you will want to remove all current partitions.

Using the Hard Drives Manufacturers Utilties CD is the best way to prepare your drive to receive a fresh copy of XP. You will have to download the CD for your brand of Hard Drive.

 

So I should just delete those partitions and start fresh?! Glad I have a second hard drive would die if I lost all my Counting Crows music!
