Hi. I am using Windows mail with Vista as the OS.
When I click on an email, it automatically opens up. How can I prevent this?
Is there some kind of setting I can change? Thank you much.:confused

If you go to Control Panel, Folder Options, and select the General tab, is the box for "Single-click to open an item" marked? If so, clear the box and try Windows Mail.

Thank you for responding. That does not solve the problem. The emails are still opening up automatically.

By "opening up automatically", are you referring to the Preview Pane, or to a separate panel for a message that should appear if you double click?

I mean that when I open windows mail up, there are my emails. When I want to delete using the delete button at top of toolbar, going down the list to delete, they still open up. When I was using Outlook Express 6, I had the same problem and I post and someone help me to solve. I can't remember how though. I don't want them to open up unless I want to read them. I did your suggestion about changing the times clicked but that is not the solution. Thank for trying to help. P

Just to concisely reiterate what you can decipher from the first two links DomLuc posted, you can either disable the Preview Pane or, if you would rather be able to just quickly turn it on or off, you can add a button to the Windows Mail toolbar that will let you toggle Preview Pane off and on as you wish.

How do I do this? Turn off preview pane and how do I find the button for the toolbar that you mention?

Have you not read the links DomLuc posted? From the first one:

    To disable it:
    View menu>Layout>disable Preview Pane.

To put/add toggle button on toolbar:
You can put the Preview button on the top toolbar, use it to toggle back and
    forth from each view.

View menu>Layout>customise toolbar>select Preview in the left pane and move
    it over to the right.
