windows me cd

trying to salvage some files on an OLD compaq laptop what runs win me by connecting a lexar jump drive to its usb port....

the jump drive works fine on my xp boxes, but thiis old compaq won't install it wiithout prompting for the me cd, which of course my friend ain't got....

have tried every which way to force it to install, and then spent too much time trying to network the compaq to my xp box. if i only had a me cd....

would appreciate a kick in the right direction...

IIRC, and I might not, you can point the request to C:\windows\options\cabs for the same result as pointing it to CD.

 

i'll TRIPLE check, but did not see options\cabs....

funny thing, i recently came across and threw away an me cd b/c i KNEW i'd never have a need for that.... some kind of lesson there...
