WEll, I'm not sure if it is gone - but it is not there.

We have no recovery disks but the computer started up - as usual - only there was only the wallpaper - no icons were there.

There is the mouse - as a pointer - but nothing to click on. And right mouse click does nothing.

We tried booting in Safe Mode but there are still no icons anywhere.

If we could somehow use the REstore Points from the DOS we might be able to get it running again - but Windows is shot - at least until someone can come up with an idea.

    Help?

System Restore isn't available from DOS.

Maybe try to run this command from the DOS command-line:
It should present you with backups of the registry, maybe one of these backups will give you your desktop back. If you are succesful then use System Restore within Windows to change back to a complete state.
