Please follow the steps below exactly:

    - Download HijackThis 1.99.1

    - Unzip the hijackthis.exe file to a folder you create named C:\Program Files\HJT

    - Do NOT run Hijack This from the Desktop, a temp folder, or a sub-folder of C:\Documents and Settings, or choose to run it directly from the downloaded ZIP file.

    - Before running HijackThis: You must close each of the following:your web browser, e-mail client, instant messenger, and programs like notepad, wordpad, MS Word etc. And any other unnecessary running programs.

    - Run HijackThis and save your log file.

    - Post your log as an ATTACHMENT to your next message. (Do NOT copy/paste the log into your post).

You should go to Add/Remove programs and uninstall WeatherBug unless it is the paid version.

What malware problems are you having with this PC?

There are no real big problems in your log although the below can be fixed:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Tray Temperature] C:\PROGRAM FILES\AWS\WEATHERBUG\WEATHERBUG.EXE 1 <--- unless it is the paid version
    O9 - Extra button: Yahoo! Messenger - {E5D12C4E-7B4F-11D3-B5C9-0050045C3C96} - C:\PROGRAM FILES\YAHOO!\MESSENGER\YPAGER.EXE (file missing)

    Hey Chaslang,
It was locking up, just had to unplug it. It is a friends machine and she likes to play games in Pogo.com and it wont let you play. I uninstalled Weatherbug two weeks ago but the exe error still pops up at start up and I can.t get it off. It won't defrag. When I first started with installing and scanning three weeks ago it had 222 critical objects removed , AVG is some how corrupted and won't update and a kazaa oriented virus keeps coming back I am only able to work afew hours at the time so it has gotten really drawn out I used the Kaza begone yesterday so I am waiting to see what happens this morning
and I am going to the Pogo web site once I get it cleaned up and see if they can figure out her game problem. can I go into the hijack file and remove this stuff that you listed? Can I also disable some of the stuff that comes up in the tray at start up? There is a Wauclt (sp) that I end and it comes right back. :)

  8. chaslang

chaslang MajorGeeks Admin - Master Malware Expert Staff Member

Just use HJT to fix the stuff I gave you in my previous message. That should fix the Weatherbug message.

Also for the Pogo problems, you could try having HJT delete all of the O16 lines that relate to Pogo. They will just redownload as necessary when she reconnects. It could be that some of those files got corrupted.

For AVG you could download the updates manually from Majorgeeks or you could try uninstalling, rebooting, and then reinstalling the program.

WUAUCLT.EXE is windows update you cannot just end the process. You really should leave it alone anyway but normally you can just turn off automatic updates.

Which startup items do you want to stop and why?

Well 11 days has elapsed since you were last here! In 11 days a PC can become completely reinfected so I have no idea what is on the PC now. Youmay find yourself re-running the READ ME FIRST.

Did you remove all the Pogo O16 lines as requested? Why are these so important anyway? Are any other sites slow or just Pogo?

    Post a new HJT log.

I checked and fixed all pogo that u requested I did all that you asked the day after you posted I just was not a aplace I had Internet access until today like I said it is a friends machine and she called me after I left home to tell me she could not even access the pogo games after I cleaned up the HJT file but I will start over anyway.

    Chaslang,
I know you probably think I am an idiot, I maybe am crazy but that is it. This computer is running me nuts. I got on the ME machine when I sent you the HJT file and it seemed slow but not so bad after I took off that DSO exploit
but I was reading in that pogo.com help and it says that your pop up blocker or firewall could make these" Cripes" errors and then it proceeds to tell you things to do. Is this place a bad place for her to go? It appears not too threatening as far as the games go. When I got home I went into the game that she is trying to access and I have all the same protection she has and I could play the game (Fortune Bingo). I did not disable any thing on my machine. I ran a new spybot and all after I went in to the game and it did not load anything except the cookies and I guess what runs the game. The only other thing I notice different is that there are alot of office applications on her machine as her daughter uses them in her work.

To add an addendum this morning when you click on the start button to shut the computer down it takes about 75 seconds for the menu to come up. I must leave going back to work to night hope to hear soon.

The last HJT log posted was clean. I'm not sure from all your messages what you meant with Spybot. Are you saying on your PC everything worked okay until you ran Spybot? Then even you had problems?

I do not and would not play all these online games so I have no opinion on them. If they do say firewalls or other stuff can interfere then I would recommend never playing them because you should never shut down you protection while online doing stuff like this.

In message number 10 I ask the below which was not answered:
When is the last time a scandisk and also a defrag was run on the PC?
    How about a memory test?

  18. tester36

    tester36 Private First Class

    Hey Chaslang ,
Happy AM to you. I to do not play these things and did not know what pogo.com was until this. and I only went to the site to see if it was just her machine or as they said she needed to disable her spyware firewall. I went to pogo.om on my machine and opened that bingo game and then exited then I reran my spybot on my machine because I am paranoid and wanted to make sure it did not put any thing on my machine and it did not my machine was and continues to be clean because of all of my fighting equipment I got from majorgeeks.
The machine sometimes is slow sometimes not so slow even like in msn.com ect. and no I still cannot defrag because of a error it says to scandisk which restarts and restarts. No memory test run can I get that on the site? What about the extra tool bar?from Search fuel it just showed up the other day?
    Again Thanks in advance,
    tester36

Before running scan disk and defrag:
    - physically disconnect from the internet (unplug cable)
    - exit/kill all spyware blocking scanning tools
    - exit/kill all antivirus applications
    - in general exit anything that could write to the disk during that time, other wise it will keep restarting

See this folder for memory tools: http://www.majorgeeks.com/downloads26.html

I have no idea where new toolbar is. I would have to see a new HJT log to see if it shows. Look for it in Add/Remove programs too.

Yes! Just let it run an see if it finds any problems. (These things we are doing are really not topics for the Spware Forum. They really belong in Software and Hardware Forums.)

How much memory is installed on this PC?

  22. tester36

    tester36 Private First Class

    Hey,
I have run the memory test for 6 hrs and no errors are recognized. The machine memory is 32 bit virtual and 127 mb RAM memory Windows ME.

On the scan disc it shows 1,050,165,248 bytes in hidden files no bad areas
It runs fine some then it will slow to a crawl. I saw in the download area of the web site the toolbarcop and I was wondering if I could download that and have you to send me whereever I belong to have the scan looked at?
I 'm out of ideas and patience as you well know this has been going on along time now and I think we have all the malware removed except this tool bar thing.
I too am working for free. You folks are indeed the best.

Well that's the user's ID. It's a good thing he does not have a lot of posts. The best way would be to post the link to the thread. Like this: c2.lop problem

This thread does not mention searchfuel.com

You have referred to it as a task bar and as a tool bar. Exactly what and where is the problem showing itself.

In message # 15 you said:

If it is not on Internet Explorer, where is it. What do you mean you cannot find an address? I need more info that describes your problem better. Maybe even attaching a screen shot of what you are referring to.

  27. tester36

No Sir, his post does not mention searchfuel.com but his description is exactly the same. As I pass the arrow over the toolbar ( my stupid inaccurate description earlier as a taskbar) it pops up searchfuel.com. The description is also my inaccuracy it should read" have not been showing up in Internet Explorer earlier". I assume the other toolbar is MSN associated but when I pass the arrow over it no address shows. I am sorry but I don't know how to do a screenshot.
ps I have to work tomorrow and won't be back til friday night.

In Internet Explorer, click on View and select Toolbars. Does it show in there?

Try running the latest version (just today) of Toolbarcop 3.4 and let's see if it can remove it.\

    I would also recommend uninstalling:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webscan] "C:\PROGRAM FILES\ACCELERATION SOFTWARE\ANTI-VIRUS\STOPSIGNAV.EXE" -k

    See this note about it.

    Hey Chaslang,
i removed the 04 Hklm like you asked and I ran the new toolbarcop but I am not really sure what to do with results I do not see the tool bar I am talking about llisted but I notice alot of start up items .
down next to the start button there is a little e with a folder behind it with an address of 280352 1-UIT=G&TargetID=4659&CtxID=2&PID=659423&AN=24984
I believe this is the address of that toolbar it does not show up in the view on IE and I am not seeing it on toolbarcop. I am trying to send you this toolbarcop log and as I was looking for it I found some type of back up file with tons of backups in it could this be something that has caused such a slow down in this machine how can I show it to you I tried to attach it it appears to be a backup file maybe weekly ?

I still do not see anything. You will need to show me a picture of this Toolbar you are referring too and explain what is on it.

I do not know what you mean by
What do you mean address? What is an address? Do you mean a file name? I have no idea what you mean. Right click on the folder and select Properties? Get some info on it. What is the Target and Target Location? Where does it Start in: ?

Are you sure that this is not just due to something you have chosen to install on your system?

Let's get an installed programs list from HijackThis.
Run HijackThis, click Open the Misc Tools section
    Click "Open Uninstall Manager"
    Click "Save List" (generates uninstall_list.txt)
Click Save, copy and paste the results in your next post.

    I thought we uninstalled eAcceleration?

    What is SysSnap?

Reduce the image size with a tool to compress images. Also do not save it as a BMP make it a JPG and then put it in a ZIP file to upload. That is not a URL !

This icon is on your Desktop? Try just renaming the icon. Then drag it to the recycle bin.

If it has an "e" on it I wonder if it is related to eAcceleration?

    Hey,
We did uninstall eAcceleration. I have no idea what SySnap is but I will see if I can find it. I also don't know about the URL thing I just right clicked and under properties it says Url ect ect. the e icon is in the taskbar down by the start button next to outlook express icon and internet explorer. The relation may well be to eAacceleration. Probably for a day or so we might not have power we are under Hurricaine watch from Hurricaine Katrina, I hope we will not be affected this time, Ivan ,and Dennis really messed everything up but just in case I did not want you to think I am not interested. Hopefully I can get to her computer tomorrow.

That's the quick launch bar which is showing to the right of Start. Just right click on the icon and select delete.

Double check Add/Remove programs because the uninstall list still shows eAcceleration. If found, uninstall it.

Becareful with correct spelling of programs, it can make a big difference.
    It was SysSnap not SySnap.

I think SysSnap may also be part of eAcceleration. Too bad you are running WinMe. Ewido Security Suite would probably fix this but it will not run on WinMe.

Try downloading, installing, updating, and running: Spy Sweeper

Save and post the log from SpySweeper.

I can't find anything in add/ remove that is anything like SysSnap.
If this machine is virus free and all I don't think she cares about the toolbar if it is not a threat. The computer is still very slow sometimes, sometimes it runs fine could her loaded up startup list cause that? I am at a loss I think a car wash to buy her a new computer would be more constructive with your and my time.

    What toolbar?

I do not believe SysSnap is MS related. Also you do not have WinXP.

    See the below link:

    http://www.techsupportforum.com/computer/topic/64076-1.html

There is a line from an Ewido Security scan that shows:

    C:\Program Files\Common Files\eAcceleration\eAnthComponents\syssnap_instal l.exe -> Spyware.eAcceleration : Cleaned with backup

Since you had eAcceleration problems to begin with and have something called SysSnap it looks like a match to me.

    Hey Chaslang,
I sent you a screenshot in reference to the toolbar that has been the main topic of discussion lately.
I did the toolbar cop. the Spysweeper and it did not remove or change it. I have not done a Ewido scan as she has Windows ME and that scan can not be done on ME maybe it was a HJT uninstall list? I do not know I am just hunting for info you asked if I knew about SysSnap and I don't, my friend was reading all this and found the info on SysSnap. I will do whatever you think I need to do no problem. You said that the Spysweeper was OK so I was just assuming if no more spyware and it is still not right maybe I need to look elsewhere maybe software, This is exactly why I don't have an ME system but I was trying to help this lady, she has no monetary resources.
Just trying to help. I agree about the eAcceleration but nothing is moving this toolbar nor changing the performance of her machine. Without you telling me what to do I am helpless.
    Thanks in advance,
    Stephanie

Perhaps the problem is in interpretation of what toolbar you are referring too. If you are referring to the item that reads from left to right:

    Links Auction Chat Dating .....etc

if that is what you are referring too, I was just ignoring it because it is a standard windows toolbar. It is called Links. It is not malware. If you do not want to see it, just disable it in Internet Explorer's View Toolbars menu. You may have to unlock Toolbars if you have them locked.

I thought you were referring to some kind of malware problem (possibly still related to eAcceleration) and I saw none.

You're welcome. Yes try the Software Forum and maybe the Game forum for Pogo.

You have to realize that while many things may not be necessary at startup, everyone can have different opinions. For example most people will agree that you do not need this QuickTime task loading at all:
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [QuickTime Task] C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM\QTTASK.EXE

However other things like below to monitor the Canon Printer Ink supply and warn you when it gets low (and it let's your buy online) Some people may like this. While people like me will say delete it.
    O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [InkWatch] C:\PROGRA~1\GATEWAY\GATEWA~2\INKWATCH.EXE.

It can be a matter or personal choice - what do I need but what do you need!!

WPFind and thought you might could look at it and if it is ok send me to the right place like games or software ect. The main problem since all the malware is gone is the same the performance of the machine is just really slow in gaming especially on the pogo.com web site.

There is nothing showing in the WinPfind log either. Does the PC only slow down when connecting to Pogo? What if you never connect to Pogo during an internet session? Does it still slow down? What if you never connect to the internet at all? Does it slow down after awhile just running things locally, like MS Word and other applications?

It may just be time for a format and reinstall. Sometimes with Wn9x (which Me is built from), this just because necessary after a while.

    Thanks for all you do.
Back to computer problem I tried yesterday for a long while just using different programs, word, solitaire not on line, just looking through files, ect and the machine does appear to slow down. Just surfing around on the internet I did not notice it being that slow unless multitasking (scanning and surfing ect. or talking and surfing ).
