Windows me upgrade to windows 2000 problems

Upgrades from me to 2000 .... now I have no programs in the start menu, I can't get it to recognize my monitor and don't know how to fix this. All my programs are on the drive, so do I have to load them all one by one into the start menu? And how do I find out what my graphics card is to try to get the driver installed.
The computer I'm using to post with is also running windows 2000 and is fine ....any help would be appreciated.

Windows ME to Windows 2000 is rife with problems. It is not a supported upgrade path and the official MS answer is to format, clean install. I concur.

Windows ME is newer than Windows 2000.

It lets you upgrade, but trust me, it gets pretty messy.

It works in safe mode ... does a regular boot, it's just that everything that was on the desktop is no longer there and it shows no installed programs (although they are there on the hard drive ..... ) It also doesn't think I have a display ....none detected ....and no multimedia devices detected. I can access programs by opening them on the c drive (if I find the right icon).

Would i solve all this by upgrading again to XP? Or can I reinstall ME and get all my stuff back?

I know the problem you are having because I was going to do just that. From what I found out the two o/s's have very different kernels and as a result, there are many things that may not work. (such as indicated) I have ME as well and will just wait until I get a new system.

My advise would be to do wipe your computer clean and do a reinstall with the o/s you prefer.
