On my laptop, every couple of days I would get an error when I try to use WMP10... The error says:

I then click on Yes and reinstall from the MS website and it works for a couple of days, but then after that the same error comes up... I've gotten accustomed to using WMP10 so I don't really want to have to switch to using Winamp or Media Player Classic... How do I fix this? Thanks for any help in advance.

To un/reinstall WMP, please do the following:

    1. Open Control Panel
    2. Double-click 'Add/Remove Programs'
    3. Hit alt+w (or click 'Windows Components')
    4. Scroll down to 'Windows Media Player' and uncheck the box next to it
    5. Click 'Next'

Now windows will uninstall windows media player. At this point, I would recommend running CCleaner to clean out temp files. To reinstall, simply follow steps 1-3, this time making sure there is a checkbox next to 'Windows Media Player' before you click 'Next'. I can't recall whether this will re-install v9 or 10, but you can then go to windows update to get the latest version.

    Good luck!

;\ I followed those exact instructions but the problem still persists... Thanks for the help so far though, but any other suggestions?

    Try the following instead:

Click START, then RUN, then type in the following: c:\windows\inf\unregmp2.exe /UpdateWMP (press enter)

    If that doesn't work, try:

    regsvr32 wmp.dll

Hey that seemed to have worked! Thanks for the help! I'll repost here if I get the error again in the next couple of days. Thanks!

No problem! Glad we could help! Just a question. Which of my suggestions helped? The first or the second?

    :)

I got a very similar message when creating an unattended install cd of XP.

    V10.0.0.3646 loaded but v9.0.0.3250 expected.

Never seen this error before. WMP10 is already loaded to my normal installation of XP & it never complained.

Had to download MP10setup.exe again making sure it was for XP & now it works OK.

    Go figure.

In your situation, XP comes with ver 9. So, installing version 10 afterwords would be the best bet, in your situation. :)

Yeah that's the thing or maybe it isn't. Thinking about it just now I don't know.

With the unattended setup I have not removed WMP9 before hand. When XP has loaded, on the next reboot it will then install WMP10.

I think WMP9 get loaded initially.......I think.

The first method you suggested worked. Nothing visually happened after I executed that command, but I just tried a random video and it worked so I'm happy :D
