Windows Media Player MIDI bug

I'm using an older version of Media Player because it counts the number of plays instead of rating each song with stars. I like it except that it sometimes crashes when playing MIDI files. It only crashes once for every dozen or so MIDI files it plays. It seems to only crash when switching from one MIDI file to another in a playlist or category (genre, album, artist, all media). I don't think it ever crashed when playing the same song over and over. I don't remember it crashing when switching between MIDI and a different type of file, though I haven't been watching this as closely. I was going to try a playlist with other media and only 1 MIDI file. I hypothesize this will not crash. It seems I heard of something like this before. Is there a way to fix it, or is the player too old? Most of my songs are in MIDI. Alternatively, would anyone recommend a better player that can import Media Player's Media Library, if there is one?

BTW, it rarely happens on the same songs, so I don't believe a MIDI file is corrupted or something.

Great. I tried the older version. It doesn't have a library like WMP, but works so much better that I think I prefer it. Is there no easier way to move the library to MPC playlists than to just remake them by hand?

BTW, So far that playlist in WMP with only 1 MIDI file has not crashed.

I also meant to mention that the version of WMP which I was referring to was 7.01.00.3055

I found I could use Windows Find File to find media files, then just drag into MPC to make a playlist. It found more than WMP did, however that includes temporary internet files.

lol, now MPC has a similar problem with .rm files. If playing from a playlist, it crashes when it gets to a .rm file. The crash occurs in Quartz.dll. I don't have many .rm files, and can play them outside of a playlist, so I'm still happy.
