windows media player removal

Well, I hope im in the right place peeps. Im running windows xp home edition and i tried uninstalling windows media player using advanced uninstaller, it stops half way and says another newer version is on and then quits unistalling. When i check to see if there was any other version running or installed there is not.
So i decide to do a system restore because i figuered i uninstalled some windows files i needed.....and now i cant do a system restore in regular or safe mode....any ideas peeps
