    Hi
I'm trying to watch wma and avi files in Windows media player, but keep getting error messages that showing these files are not possible. I have Windows media player version 10.00.00.3646

Anyone who might have an idea of what I need in order to whatch such files?

AVI files might require a proper codec to play:

    ffdshow

Not sure why WMA files won't play.

OK. Looks like there are quite many codecs to download from the link posted. How do I know which one of them to download?

Use GSpot or VideoInspector to scan the file, tell you what codec is required and provide download links.

    Thanks insomniac...just what I needed.

Seems to be a programme for everything "out there"...

Any tips on which of these two programmes are easiest to use?

VideoInspector is easier to use, but they are both simple.

I use both to double-check or when one doesn't return any results.
