windows messenger

did some house cleaning yesterday and now I get an Windows messenger...Not signed in icon in startup. Is this correct setting?

 

I expect you mean MSN messenger. Windows messenger is an internal service for network administrators to switch geeks on and off their network and post them geeksy messages.

MSN messenger default action is to boot at startup and is to transfer messages between users ove rthe internet.
It may (and should be IMO) be prevented from starting by unticking the start with windows box in the preferences tab. This is better than hitting it with msconfig or the registry.

 

Windows Messenger is an IM application shipped with XP. It is also used to communicate in Remote Assistance sessions. MSN Messenger is the next generation of Windows Messenger, with more features, and of course, bloat. Its not used for RA though.

The Messenger SERVICE is used by admins to send message to users as well as administrative alerts from certain applications. Net send uses the messenger service. This is not to be confused with Windows Messenger, although the names are similar.

 

It is says "windows messenger Not signed in". I was malware/anti virus/spyware cleaning on the computer yesterday. I have a wireless router on that computer. What do I do with it?

 

Thats the default state for it. You can go into the options and set it to not load on windows startup.

 

is this options > preferences? which one would I un-check?

 

Im on OS X, so I cant give exact locations, but it will say load on startup, or start with windows. Go through all the options, its there.
