    Ahh! Help!
We have a very buggy popup everytime we want to open an application that uses music or video. Windows- No disk. I bet you already have seen enough of this. I ran Hijack this and tried cleaning up but nothing. I still have the problem. I would appreciate any insight on where I could be having the issue. I have attached the log file.
    Thank you for any help!

    Welcome to Majorgeeks!

This does not sound like malware. It just sounds like something is remembering the last drive accessed which may have been a removable drive.

If you really want to check for malware you need to follow the steps below before posting HijackThis log which do not provide sufficient information by themselves on a PC's malware status. However, it sound to me like you are in the wrong forum.

Please follow our standard cleaning procedures which are necessary for us to provide you support. Also there are steps included for installing, running, and posting HijackThis logs as attachments.
    • Run ALL the steps in this Sticky thread READ & RUN ME FIRST Before Asking for Support
    • Make sure you check version numbers and get all updates.
    • Very Important: Make sure you tell us the results from running the tutorial...was anything found? Were you unable to complete any of the scans?...Were you unable to download any of the tools?...Did you do the on-line scans as suggested? etc.
    • After doing ALL of the above you still have a problem make sure you have booted to normal mode and run the steps in the below link to properly use HijackThis and attach a log:
    • When you return to make your next post, make sure you attach the following logs and that you have run these scans in the following order too (these scans are covered in steps 6 & 7 of the READ & RUN ME sticky)
      • Bitdefender
      • Panda Scan
      • HijackThis

I spent 2 days going step by step before posting, as you have insisted. I would have not posted before reading. I ran Adware and found 2 critical objects and then just normal ie cookies that adaware picks up. My antivirus does not pick anything up. It took me 3 hours to go throught the codes and only found 2 files that were X, all other were optional or needed. But these were minor nonthreatening files. I do not recall the names unfortunately. I have rebooted several times. I have searched for this error in the internet and a post on this very forum brought me here. I do not have removable drives, and this problem started about a week ago after uninstalling Norton Internet security and antivirus because it was so annoying, after the trial liscense was up.

I have run disk clean up, deleted temp files, any unrecognized folders and files. Manually cleaned cookies, and any downloaded programs. :)

This is not a Windows system popup, it doesn't result in any freezing applications or or send error report to Microsoft. If you say I am in the wrong place I will anyways keep seraching until I find a way to get rid of the little popup  . It does not disable any functions, it does not display the letter of the drive. I have checked all my drives and they are running correctly. My machine is only 4 months old. I am not a geek but I have 7 years of computer technology behind me.

Besides you strongly insist that the Hijack this is for expert and advanced users. I do not enjoy working with the registry of the computer and have never used this software before, which would make me not expert in this. I saw another thread where the user got this problem solved after running the Hijack this (posted his log) and they told him what to get fixed and he never saw the pop up again.

Any suggestions or ideas could guide me to resolve this or look to where I can get it resolved.

    Thank you,
    Mary

PS: I will do it all over again, just in case I have missed any steps.

But you did not run all the steps in the READ & RUN ME and that is why I posted the request for you to follow those steps. Here is a list of what you did not do:
    • did not run Windows Defender
    • did not run Bitdefender
    • did not attach the Bitdefender log as requested
    • did not run PandaActiveScan
    • did not attach the PandaActiveScan log as requested
    • did not follow the instructions in step 7 of the READ ME and as a result you have HijackThis installed here:
    C:\Documents and Settings\HP_Administrator\My Documents\My Received Files\HijackThis.exe

That is exactly where step 7 specifies not to install it.

Please complete the steps you have not run and then attach the three requested logs as indicated in message # 2. Your HijackThis log does not show any problems which does not necessarily mean you are clean. HijackThis is not a malware scanner. It is just a tool that has been designed to to display a current running process list and also a variety of registry keys. It does not display all possible infected registry keys or the many thousands of possible infected files or folders that could be on your system. This is the reason why the READ & RUN ME is performed. Even then there still could be hidden malware! Malware changes many times daily. It is constant learrning process to determine what new tricks they are using and we have many other scans and tools we use to hunt things down. Doing the READ & RUN ME first gets us into a known status to work from and gives us the ability to focus on what the next step may need to be.

How do you know it is not a Windows popup? It sounds like one to me. Have you tried cleaning out the history of last things open in the applications that you are trying to run? Or at least try opening a bunch of things that are on a local drive (something always accessible). After opening many local files, you would potentially remove the history of access to a removable drive which is what your problem sounds like.

You were right with the Hijackthis software. I do not think it shoud be insisted that we do this if we are not experts. I will do all the steps once I recover my dvd writer and dvd rom that apparently were lost (and no the drivers will not reinstall  ) after using the fix this feature, and studying the code guide. It is still not enough for us to use without fear of losing other features in the computer.
Oh well, I will get back to you once I have resolved the most serious issue.

    Thank you!

I talked to a tech on my attempt to resolve the drives issue and I explained to him the No Disk error. This is not a popup, this is the Image Zone from the Media center trying to locate an update.

I had done a search on the internetfor this error and I know it was resolved as malware, but in my case it did not seem so. If you would like more detail of how to resolve it so you can keep it for your records, please email me!
I am sorry for so much bother and thank you for your patience and knowledge. I am sure I will return when I have another issue, and I will post in the correct forum.

All we ask users to do is get a log from HijackThis. We will do all the rest. HijackThis does not do anything else on its own. We warn you so that you will not experiment on your own. Without having a HijackThis log AFTER all the other steps are run, we would not be able to complete the process of removing all malware.

So as I suspected in my first message, this was not a malware problem.

You should howver take a look at the below link:
