    Greetings,

Following the advice of Chaslang I am writing here to ask if you would be able to assist me with the various software problems I am having. On Malware Removal thread http://forums.majorgeeks.com/showthread.php?t=96075 I have already listed what these issues and, in great detail, all of the steps I have taken up to this point which you may find helpful in resolving these issues.

The short version is the AOL Safety and Security Center had detected a suspect file we are unable to identify, a Window - No Disk error pops up from time to time, although far less frequently now, and system restore refuses to work due to various reasons. Furthermore, I recently looked into the possibility that the AOL Safety and Security Center is malfunctioning as well and have determined that it has experienced 49 Fatal Component errors (Code SC-10032) as well as many others which show up in the Event Viewer. Following the advice from AOL's Live Tech Support provided no resolution to this problem as they simply had me do most of what Chaslang has already directed me to do with the only additional item being to run Stinger which found nothing.

Concluding, I am considering simply installing Free Avast! 4 Home Edition, as Chaslang suggested, and see what happens from there. However, I am uncertain if these other issues should be resolved beforehand so your assistance would be greatly appreciated on this matter. I thank you for your time in advance and look forward to reading any replies you may have.

Uninstalling the AOL Safety and Security programs might solve some of your problems. The "No Disk" error could just be happening if the virus scanner is running/checking in the background. Do you have a floppy drive? Might be accessing the floppy on startup or reboot looking for a disk.

My suggestion, to start, is remove AOL Safety and Security and install Avast. See if that stops the No Disk pop-ups.

Also, I noticed you have Mcafee listed in the HJT logs. Is this part of the AOL suite or seperate?

AOL's Safety and Security Center's Anti-Virus is powered by McAfee. Before they used to be separate programs you needed to download for each, but now they are all linked together through the Safety and Security Center.
