Interesting article. Basically, even if you do steal their software they want you to patch it. Not doing so puts everyone at risk and enhances the chance that a virus will continue to be spread.

Seems like the only way they could update would be with the monthly ISO release?

MS should push Critical updates and patches (at least) to all Windows/MS users, regardless of of the legality of their software installations, the fewer unpatched PC's/Macs that are out there, the smaller the botnets etc. will be.

They did this a few years ago. I agree that it should be patched, but I think their idea is to also track who has pirated versions and take action against them (which is the way it should be).

This isn't really news its been MS policy for years,I don't think MS are doing this out of the goodness of their heart the more windows user who complain and switch operating systems due to windows crashing or being unsecure reflect badly on them irrelevant of whether the copy in question is pirated or not.

It makes good business sense that's all since the only over head providing pirated copies with security updates is bandwidth.

    Sorry, couldn't resist LOL

I thought that you could only function for a certain amount of days with a pirated copy of MS then they limit you? That happened to someone I know when Vista first came out. They only had like 90 days or something to make the copy legit and when it didn't happen, they basically denied access.

Shiver mi timbers, that greedy bar steward is :cry worried about a few measly copies of his software, yet he cant wait and rush out a new version that don't work properly, bolted onto the back of exciting operating systems. Then dumps you by ceasing to maintain it a few years down the line and the people that buy it tolerate it, shovelling yet more money at him. No wonder he is rich.
