    Hey guys !

So I've got a laptop that I'm pretty sure is infected heavily with malware or some sort of virus. Many actually.

I ran CC Cleaner and that was pretty quick. This surprised me because it usually takes a while to run from my experience but I thought nothing of it.

So I moved to the next step and ran RougueKiller. This found a couple of infections but I followed the instructions and closed it. Right after closing the program my computer shut off.

Now it keeps resetting and taking me to a Windows Recovery screen and my options are normal boot up, safe modes, and last known good configuration.
I tried normal and last known configuration but both fail on me and take me on a boot loop. Any help would be appreciated!

    Welcome to Major Geeks!
What exactly did you do with CCleaner?

Since you did not remove anything with RogueKiller, this would have nothing to do with RogueKillers scan. It does not fix anything unless requested. So this again leads to what did you do with CCleaner. Did you do more than just clean temp files?

Try booting in safe mode and tell us what happens.

Also you always need to tell people what version of Windows you are running?

Just like the directions said I ran CC Cleaner and did nothing else. It ran really quickly and deleted the temp files. I saw analyze and run cleaner so I hit run cleaner.

Then I ran Rougue killer. I'm running Windows Vista 32 bit.

Safe Mode goes into loading the windows files and then reboots and again brings me to the Windows Error Recovery page.

Trying to boot up in normally actually shows me the Vista loading screen (the bar with Microsoft Corporation underneath it) but again restarts after and takes me to the Windows Error Recovery screen.

Also before restarting a quick message displays for half a second before shutting down.
The message is " A problem has Ben detected with Windows and has been shut down to prevent damage. If this is the first time you've seen this stop error screen, restart you-."

Do you have your Vista boot DVD? Or can you get the below to work?

Please do the below so that we can boot to System Recovery Options to run a scan.

For 32-bit (x86) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool and save it to a flash drive.
For 64-bit (x64) systems download Farbar Recovery Scan Tool x64 and save it to a flash drive.

Plug the flashdrive into the infected PC.

Enter System Recovery Options from the Advanced Boot Options:
    • Restart the computer.
    • As soon as the BIOS is loaded begin tapping the F8 key until Advanced Boot Options appears.
    • Use the arrow keys to select the Repair your computer menu item.
    • Select US as the keyboard language settings, and then click Next.
    • Select the operating system you want to repair, and then click Next.
    • Select your user account an click Next.

On the System Recovery Options menu you will get the following options:
    • Select Command Prompt
    • In the command window type in notepad and press Enter.
    • The notepad opens. Under File menu select Open.
    • Select "Computer" and find your flash drive letter and close the notepad.
    • In the command window type e:\frst.exe (for x64 bit version type e:\frst64) and press Enter
Note: Replace letter e with the drive letter of your flash drive.
    • The tool will start to run.
    • When the tool opens click Yes to disclaimer.
    • Press Scan button.
    • It will make a log (FRST.txt) on the flash drive. Please attach this file to your next reply. (See: How to attach)

Thank you so very much for the response. Unfortunately I went the recovery disk route and just started from scratch again. I wish I would've taken your steps that way I could've learned something along the way. But again I really do appreciate all your help!!

One problem that I am running into now is that I'm getting random BSODs.
At a quick glance what I see is a tcpip.sys error.

Not too sure if you can help me with this. If not I just want to thank you again for trying to help me out with my PC problems!!!

    You're welcome.
Sorry but no! Since you did a recovery, this is now not a topic for the malware forum. You can try the Software Forum.
