windows search indexer error

greetings all. i keep getting an error message saying that windows search indexer has stopped working. it gives me the option to go online to search for a solution but nothing happens. I close the box and continue as normal. any ideas on how to fix it? Toshiba laptop running vista.

looks like the probelm may be more than just search indexer. i am now getting the same error from host service and I am unable to download windows updates or windows defender updates. I had a trojan attack a couple of weeks ago but I thought i had cleared it with spybot and superantispyware scans. Avira doesnt pick anything up when scanning either. could my windows issues be due to trojans etc?
