I installed a linux os on my pc, so now it's a dual boot windows xp/ ubuntu machine. In the process something related to the sound card drivers got messed up. When I run rosetta stone, as soon as I tried to set up the mic the windows os crashes. If I try to call on a magic jack phone- crash.

If I try to run audio in skype- crash. MSN worked, but the sound was horrid- broken, stuttering.

I uninstalled the realtek audio drivers, per instructions for a gateway box- attempted reinstall- now nothing.

In my device manager where it says "Audio Device for High Definition Audio Bus" there is a question mark and a yellow exclamation mark. I know that means there is no driver installed for it. Where do I get the driver from? Windows update is useless.

You need to get them from your motherboard manufacturer's site if it is a custom build, and from the computer manufacturer's site if it is a pre-built unit.
