I'm using windows ME. My kids (grown) use my pc sometimes. Well, after they used it it wasn't running right so I ran adaware and found 48 problems (many were statblast)! Adaware would freeze when I tried to delete them, till I went to registry and removed WildMedia, then ran adaware. My question is, shouldn't I be able to delete everything in my windows temp folder? There are 3 files, DF1682, JETCE3B, and JETF793. If I go in and try to delete these, I get "cannot delete, the source file may be in use" Any thoughts as to what these are, and if they should be removed? I use sygate and avast, could it be related to these?
    Thanks

    Hi There,
Looks as if there are still remnants of what you have removed activating on your computer and which have locked up those buggars in your temp file. So I would first have a look at whats firing up in your startup. Not familiar with ME but if you have spybot installed (and its a good idea to have it) go to tools and click it and them click on startup to see whats opening when you fire up the box. Untick those that might be related to the progs you removed. Hope this helps. Any ME experts might also have a tilt at this one.
Additionally tell your grownup kids to keep off the box your give it to them and get them to buy you nice new gremlin free one eh??
    Merry Xmas

I like the idea of them buying me a new one, but they're 19 and 21, and cash poor, so I'm not holding my breath. I'm not sure what you mean by "go to tools and click it and them click on startup to see whats opening when you fire up the box", I did run it before I posted though, and it found nothing. I even tried "end it all" to shut everything down, then tried to delete them, but still couldn't.

When it says the "Source file is in use" something is running on the computer that is using those files, so it won't let you delete it. There are various programs that will show you what is starting up on your computer when you first turn it on, and many of these programs will let you choose which ones to turn on, and which ones to turn off. Seldom do you need lots of stuff running in the background. The main things you will need running at startup, besides the normal operating processes, will be your antivirus and your firewall. Everything else is optional, such as Instant Messaging. Some people like that to fireup and run at all times while they are on their computer, others like to turn it on manually, and shut it down when they are done.

So, the thing to do is to either use Spybots Tools feature, as Robert suggested, or download another program that is specifically for Startup Managing, such as Startup Inspector for Windows, which is what I use, see what you want to keep on startup, and tell everything else to keep quiet. :)

After that is done, try again to delete the files. You may also want to startup in Safemode if the files still don't delete.

    Let us know what happens.

    Eric
