I need Microsoft to check my computer for missing updates. (XP)

I found the Update page but a pop up tells me to allow Active X. I'm told to hover my mouse in a certain area. This isn't happening so I am unable to proceed.

    Is there an alternative?

Is there maybe a narrow information bar, yellowish in color, appearing at the top of your screen, with a message about an application running or downloading.

I don't remember ever seeing instructions to "hover" the mouse in an area. It may just be waiting for you to give permission to download.

    Click on that bar. :wave:wave

I've hovered that mouse over every fraction of the toolbar on Softonic and nothing shows me Active X. Now I can't even find the update scan page.

Although I downloaded the IE update KB938127 last night, it's still sitting in my sys tray and refuses to download. I give up.

I downloaded MrFixit yet again and ran it. It didn't point to any errors or missing filed, merely asked me about IE problems. I don't use IE so it was irrelevant. Booted out from my PC yet again.

And STILL the IE update shield sits in my sys tray. Odd how Mr.Fixit couldn't find it.
