I cleaned up a bunch of malware on a neighbor's computer and then I went to Windows Update to see if all updates had been installed and I received the following message:

"Files required to use Windows Update are no longer registered or installed on your computer. To continue:

Register or reinstall the files for me now (Recommended)
Let me read about more steps that might be required to solve the problem"

I then had it register and reinstall the files for me and I received the following error:

"The website has encountered a problem and cannot display the page you are trying to view. The options provided below might help you solve the problem. Error number: 0x8007041D"

Do I need to repair this problem and how or can I just go ahead and upgrade to Microsoft Update and see if that works?

The computer is running Windows XP Home with SP3.

    Thank you.

There is no record of Eset Nod32 being on the computer so I don't think that applies.

I went Microsoft Update and thing appear to be working.

    Thanks.
