hi
i had the auto update on and i got this star-looked icon in the system tray ,
"you may be a victim of software counterfeiting"
what is it and what to do?

basically it's saying that your copy of windows xp is not a legit copy. and you have failed the windows validation advantage tool that automatic update runs now.

You will have to either get a genuine copy of Windows if you knew your copy was illegal or if you were sold it as genuine then you can in some cases get a free copy from Microsoft if you can prove you were under the impression your version was ligitimate http://www.microsoft.com/genuine/downloads/WhyValidate.aspx

Windows will alert you in about 14 days to buy genuine.

I question whether 80% of the population use conterfeight copies. This just seems way out of porportion. I think if these facts were correct microsoft would have mentioned it somehow.
