After going through the entire Malware removal process, my Windows Update has stopped working.

I have tried the following with no results:

Try shutting down Comodo and any other protection software and see if that helps.

If not, then try the below.

Download Windows Repair by Tweaking.com and unzip the contents into a newly created folder on your desktop.
    Now open Repair_Windows.exe
    Go to Start Repairs tab.
Choose "Custom Mode" and press "Start".
Create a System Restore point if prompted.
In the Custom Mode window, select the following repair options:
    Repair Windows Firewall
    Repair Internet Explorer
    Repair Hosts File
    Remove Policies Set By Infections
    Repair Winsock & DNS Cache
    Repair Windows Updates
    Now click the Start button.
Be patient while the tool repairs the selected items.
If asked to reboot the computer for the changes to take affect, make sure other tasks in the program are not still running before accepting to restart.
    Reboot after running Windows Repair.

    Any thoughts?

    Thank you.:)

No luck. I have tries several things from Microsoft support forums all of which have not worked. I also tried Ccleaner to just basically clean things up.

The exact error I am getting is:

When I click "Check for Updates" it scans for a couple of seconds and then returns:

Red X Shield picture with: "Windows could not search for new updates"
An error occurred while checking for new updates for your computer.
Errors found: Code 80096001 Windows update encountered an unknown error.

While there are some posts that reference this error across the web, there does not seem to be a solution that has fixed this specific Windows Update problem.

Any other ideas would be greatly appreciated?
