Hi, I am no geek with computers, so please bear with me if I sound stupid here. I just finished reformatting my Win7 pc from the recovery disks I had created. I've run a number of long Win Updates and when I check the "Update History" the "Security Pack 2" update files are listed as "Failed". Also (with the exception of a handful of update files at the beginning and the end of the list), the majority of the large list of files "Status" is shown as "Pending". My questions are these; - Is the "Pending" status a problem that I need to address, and if so how do I do that? .... Of course my other question is; - "How do I fix the failed Security Pack 2 installation? I have tried running the repair program in the Updates program but have not gotten results. .... Any help would be appreciated.

Hey meatball, do you have SP1 installed first ?? And did it work ok at that time ?? Please excuse me if I asked a question that you may have stated before.

Nick - I just checked the update history and there is one file listed as SP1 but it is shown as "Pending". If you are asking me if the computer worked ok after the SP1 update, ... as far as I know it did. I ran all the updates one after another after I finished reformatting however, so I can't say if I might have had any problems after the SP1 update and before further updates.

Meatball, go back to Win Update and let it scan for updates. Use to Custom option to scan so you can see what updates are found.

Nick - Thank you for your time. I cannot find a Custom Option anywhere. Can you tell me where to find it? Updates is showing No Updates Available.
    I'm running Win7 Home version.

Hey buddy, check your Update History at Windows Update, and see if you have any Failed updates listed.

Nick - As I described in my first post, the update history shows all of the SP2 files as Failed. Most of the other updates show as Pending and that includes SP1. ........ I just looked at "Updates Installed" however and it shows 143 files installed and there are only about 32 files shown as installed when I look at the Updates History.

Also, on the main Win Update window, for "Updates Installed" it says "Never", which seems puzzling. I ran an update repair program that I found at microsofts site yesterday and after running it stated that it had installed a handful of files, but no changes show on the Updates History list. I am wondering if my updates program is just not working properly and not showing the correct information. Is that possible?

You may be on to something buddy, the updates may actually be installed and doing their job. Maybe give it alittle time and see what happens when new updates arrive.

I will do that. The only concern I have regards the SP2 update. If that is not installed, what sort of vulnerability issues does that create?

Alright buddy, Microsoft didn't release a Service Pack 2 for Win 7, and if it is all security roll ups and hotfixes , you should have them already, so I would wait until the next update release and see what shows up. That may just take care of the problem. :)

Thank you Nick. I was confused by the presence of the SP2 failed installs on my Update History and only assumed I would not have received them if I didn't need them. ... We live and learn. ... I will do as you suggest and wait for further updates. Thank you again.
