I reset an older computer I had by installing Win 8, all went well until I started my update, got the "update failed re configuring updates" I tried msconfig and disabling all the windows products and startups, ran Windows Update troubleshooter. I know I can probably get them to install like doing 10 or 20 at a time. I have a link that still can get me to Win. 10 but if I do upgrade to Win. 10 without doing all the Win. 8 updates will it work as well? T.I.A.

All the micros0ft information I read is that to upgrade a Windows 8 system to 10, it must be at 8.1.

I concur. You must be at W8.1 to "upgrade" to W10. But you can do a fresh install of W10 over W8 - assuming the hardware supports W10.

You may, however, need to purchase a Product Key for Win 10 if you hadn't updated to Win 10 from Win 8/8.1 before.
