I cannot get vista to even boot , and the recovery option says windows cannot repair the problem.

    File:\Windows\system32\winload.exe

    status: 0xc000000f

Info: The selected entry could not be loaded because the application is missing or corrupt.

That is the message I'm receiving when I try to boot. The last thing that happened in windows was it updated my Acrobat 7.0 then rebooted, and that's when the problem started.

Can someone please help me? Thank you in advance.

Is this the process you are using to repair?

    Remove all your USB devices.

Had you tried to boot to safe mode and remove Acrobat as that was the last application installed before the crash? ( many many applications still do not work fully if at all with Vista, their makers have not issued many updates as yet... acrobat was one, Pro and Free Reader 7.08 seem to work ok )

sadly as your initial install was sucessfull, you do not gain the option to rollback to the previous OS as in XP SP2, you do if the initial install crashes or doesnt work.

The repair function of Vista is still not 100% working as it is in XP, which is why most if not all testers, try it once, then if it hasnt worked, do a clean install as in your case it seems to have corrupted the boot ini file.

I hope this PC has been fully backed up with all your important data and files, before you installed Vista as your only way to recover now to XP will be to Clean install your XP, BUT you will loose all data on that Hard Drive. DO try booting to safe mode first in Vista to see if that helps.

One possible way to recover you data on that failed install would be to hook it up to another PC as a slave drive and see if it can be accessed.

I don't mind so much as to start over and do a reformat, but is there anyway I can save 3 folders plus my documents folder? If I lose those folders i will absolutely die. I do have another harddrive installed on my computer, but is there anyway to transfer those folders to the other HD in dos? Or better yet, can I transfer those folders to my laptop? None of the folders are in windows folder.

Yes, as Halo mentioned, you should be able to connect the Vista hard drive to another computer as a slave, and browse the files without booting into that HDD's OS. In the future, don't put critical data on a beta OS! :)
