Windows Vista Password

I recently purchased a Dell Dimension 9200 that has Windows Vista Business Edition installed. I've posted regarding this same computer before, and am glad to announce I was able to reset the BIOS password; my thanks to all those who assisted me! :)

My next hurdle is getting into the computer. The old user had a Windows password as well. I've contacted the original owner & they don't remember the password. I've also tried to do a factory restore, but apparently Vista requires an account with Admin rights. Unfortunately, the Admin account & the Guest account have had their admin rights disabled. The only other user profile is the one that if i new the password for, I wouldn't be in this pickle.

Any ideas on getting around the Windows Vista Password?
    Thanks!:)

    I'm confused.

here you said it has XP Home and now it has Vista Business.

If you google reset Vista password, you'll find some solutions. I won't post any here because MajorGeeks frowns on posting solutions that may be used by people not owning the computer.

That post was before I got past the BIOS password; and I didn't even think to look at the sticker. I have a 9100 with XP Home, so I just assumed the 9200 had Home on it as well.

The reason I posted on MajorGeeks was because the only solution I found by googling was brought up having to know the users password. I'll do some more searching to see what I can come up with.

    Hi

Well a user who has forgotten their password is kinda unusual especially if they have been using this PC for a while, however it likely happens!

But you could use BARTPE and this addon and build a bootCD of your own to allow you to change the password.

as you may agree the legitimacy of telling users on an open forum how to change passwords or bypass them is open to abuse, I wont go into detail on how you exactly do this, as you should be able to work it out tho.

I definitely agree about having an open discussion regarding changing of passwords on a public forum. Just wasn't sure where else to turn lol. I'll try the boot cd & see where that takes me. Thanks :)

In accordance with MG policy I can't tell you how to reset the Vista password, I can only confirm that it can be done.

In my experience there is no guaranteed solution, even the paid for crackers/resetters say you may have to reinstall in their small print.

I can tell you, however, that Vista like all versions of Windows has a built in administrator account that is not normally visible.

Of course those who fully participate in Major Geeks (pm system) might find more help.
