    Hi,

Does anyone know where I can download the Windows Vista Setup DVD ISO file from the microsoft website. I downloaded Windows Vista SP1 from the Microsoft Website but it doesn't run setup when I boot from the DVD drive. As always, thanks in advance.

    Hi

There is no free download of the full Windows Vista Setup main OS disk, if you have an MSDN or TechNet account you can grab it off those download areas (accounts are paid ones and not cheap) easily, so if you're in IT then check if your IT dept or company have an MSDN or TechNet account thats not expired.

Could you explain what you are attempting as if its a clean install using a Service Pack ISO, then thats not going to work, you'll need Vista installed already as the SP1 and SP2 ISOs are mearly that the full SP package that you run from inside an already installed GUI or as DomLuc mentions run from WU/AU.

Also why not go for Service Pack 2 for Vista? *only curious as its latest version but I know some instances of a PCs usage needs previous SP for specific softeare to function correctly*

No way if you had AUTOMATIC UPDATES shut off...that's the problem I have right now regarding the same problem!!

As I mentioned I HAD SHUT OFF AUTOMATIC UPDATES (read some where that it wasn't such a good idea to have this feature activated?) so I now have no other choice than to try and download Vista SP2 directly hence my problems

    Hi

Thread and OPs issue is sorted and was not an Service Pack update issue, so please do start a new thread on your issue if you have not already on your update issue and maybe we can help, but I agree with DomLuc in having Windows Update set to automatic, I do personally however have it to download and let me choose what to install, but thats me in wanting to know what the updates are for.

    Many thanks :)
