Windows vista & xp on same pc??

I'm not at all happy with my pre-installed Vista Home Premium SP1 64 bit on my new Toshiba SATELLITE P300 laptop. I would love to have my Windows XP Home again but don't want to risk upsetting the apple cart and end up with NOTHING! Could I install WINDOWS XP HOME SP4 64 bit on a USB drive and use it as a plug-in program on my labtop without altering the installed Vista?

xp is not at sp4 yet - in either 32 or 64 bit and is never likely to have an sp4.
You might find your problems with vista are to do with understanding it and using it. Certainly, you should be at vista sp2 and you need to resolve that issue - like explaining whether or not you have tried (and what results you have had) turning automatic updates back on.
You certainly cannot run an os off a usb stick.
You can *dual boot* two separate oss on separate partitions - but unless you have researched that you will find it much more complex than resolving your existing problem of getting vista sp2 installed. In other words, that further step is more involved than the one you haven't yet fixed.

try this one....i've downloaded about 6 ms programs and none of them will install...windows defender, silverlight, sp2, windows server update, etc. Funny they're all ms programs!
