Windows Vista

    you guys helped me a few months ago and i installed Zonealarm, AVG, etc.

    i have bought a new computer, Dell, with Windows Vista. It looks like it comes with all the security stuff i need.

    Can anyone speak to what windows comes prepackaged with and what i need to add?

    p.s. I did a search on vista and didn't find much.

    I don't know what Dell pre-installs, you should probably get rid of the stuff anyways, I use Avast as an anti-virus and Vista Firewall Control, both of which are free and work well with Vista. There are other good choices also and folk will post them.

    Nope those two are very good choices for Vista at present as Augie pointed out, ZoneAlarm is not compatible with Vista at moment, their is a beta, but the free one is now starting for many to get slightly bloated with too mcuh added, sadly they lost the KISS formula.

    Comodo firewall will be a great option for Vista ones a Vista versionis completed, but for other options you should add then:

    SpywareBlaster ( Doesnt scan and remove malware but does help to prevent it being installed in the first place )

    A-Squared Free ( is a good second manual scanner for hunting out malware )

    Both work well in Vista and help and provide soem additional security.

    it comes with the mcafee suite.

    thanks guys. i found a link for avast on here, but where do i get vista firewall control? did it come one my computer with MSVista?

    Eeek on Mcafee suite, if you are installing other security apps such as Avast and Vista FW control then you need to remove McAfee as multiple security apps will conflict.
