windows will not update

Cannot update any of the critical updates from microsoft. I get error KB892130 that relates to microsoft genuine advantage program. Yet when I validate I get a notice that reads:"Validation complete! Thank you for validating your copy of microsoft windows. Thank you for using windows genuine advantage program. You may now access resources for genuine windows users".
Then every update attempt shows error Kb892130. It also says language installed on your computer is different from the update language. I don't know what to try.
I'm using windows xp-home.

 

For your language problem goto control pannel and goto Regional and language options if you are from the us the first one on the top should be
English (united States) and the one on the bottom off the page should be
location United States.

For your error when finish installing genuine advantage goto tools internet options and delete files and delited off line content should be check and cookie and then reboot your computer try again....

This should work.....if not post error !!!

No progress. I've tried everything suggested. I only get the beige upgrade box blinking vertical line forever. It never downloads. I have my 15 digit genuine product key number but am never even asked for it. If Microsoft were a car I would junk it and buy a different model. Too bad it's like a monopoly.

 

One correction. The box finally said "your updates could not be installed". Absolutely no reason was given. Nothing.

That doesn't answer my question. Which one would you prefer to use? The site owners have a problem with users having more than one ID so please select one and I will delete the other one. Ok?

 

Like many others, I had exactly the same problem. I searched and searched the internet and couldn't find any solution that worked. I'm also subscribed to the WindowsSecrets.com newsletter, and they gave a link for this problem a month or two ago which finally worked for me... Try it and see if it helps you too:

This problem is unrelated, but this might be the easiest route to the solution. When I try to post in Major Geeks, if I sit too long writing my post before I submit it, I am sent to a not-valid-thread message or a not-logged-on message. I suspect there's a timer deleting my cookies or a refresher missing, since I don't have a problem if I continue to browse the site or submit something immediately, but I don't know how to fix this. I now copy my messages before I submit them, so I don't lose them altogther.

just for clarification ... I thought the "remember me" box was to remember my password? I have to tick it every time I come in. Is that right?
