"Windows Wireless Router Module Installed"

Yesterday I came into my office and found the following notification:

Driver Software Installation
Microsoft Wireless Router Module installed

Microsoft Wireless Router Module - ready to use

================

I have a wireless router, but this computer doesn't have wifi. I checked with PCMatic and they didn't install this driver - is it legit, or should I remove it? TIA

I didn't 'let' Windows install this driver - it installed overnight, without my permission. Don't understand how this can happen - anyone?

 

As routers, wireless or otherwise, do not require any drivers to be installed on any connected computer, and as your PC is connecting and is not wifi anyway then clearly you don't need it. If you have an image that predates this event then I would restore it, or at the very least go back to an earlier system restore point. Probably worth running one or two deep security scans too.
