Stupid thing was working perfectly until I changed one of the 0's to a 1 ...

No, but the error I get is not enough memory. I can get to the start normally prompt in xp pro and then it just freezes.

I switched to my 98se drive, (physically switched it) which is configed for the albatron kx400 motherboard and I got little farther and it said to get rid of some files in the .bat files????

On initial start I get all the specs etc, and it recognizes the ddr 2700 2 gigs in there, just when it comes time to launch the OS it crapulates.

SO, I have no boot disk, but I do have the original software cd, which I cannot seem to get into dos prompt with

I have my laptop, but no 3.5 floppy drive to create a boot disk, how the heck can I make a boot cd disk for dos using my xp pro?

Or should I just trash the Mobo?

Problem seemed to happen using the ati all in wonder 9600xt, and that machine does not go online. I was watching the simpsons when it just turned paisly and froze.

Restarted went back to the ati tv and it would freeze then after like the third try, I cannot even boot into windows 98 or xp.

    Help or insight appreciated

I would try unhooking everything but the hard drive and see where you get, sounds kinda like a sick power supply. ed

Well no luck, I did get a little farther down the road as far as error messages. I was able to get one "himem missing".

I did get the xp disk to boot, but could not get it to launch xp, just stopped. ,

Sounds like a fault in your memory chips either not seated properly or a faulty chip set, could run memtest but doubt you can, so would swap out the memory boards and see if that helps.

Well, I found my 98 boot disk and was able to access c: and it showed the config.sys as 1 file 0 bytes???

    No autoexec bat???

Now let me say, this worked perfectly the last time it was connected.

So could a setting in the bios or somewhere wipe out my HD?

Can a virus reside in the bios?

I'm going to plug this drive into another machine and see what happens,

With the xp drive, it cant find any sys32 or any drivers,

Neither HD sounds as though they are working...no clickity clackity like during boot up.

Both hd's were set up to use the ati all in wonder, and that is the program that was running on xp pro when it went south, but only on hd was connected physically at a time.
