I don't know what happened to my laptop. Basically it worked fine yesterday. Today, I go to turn it on and it freezes. I am using Windows XP. Right after you turn it on, the screen has the Windowsxp Professional with the little bar underneath it with the blue dots moving accross it. The dots move threw the bar a couple times then stop. And nothing happens. So, I turn it off and when I turn it back on it says:

We appologize for the inconvenience, but Windows did not start successfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this.

If your computer stopped responding, restarted unexpectedly, or was automatically shut down to protect files and folders, choose Last Known Good Configuration to revert to the most recent settings that worked.

If a previous start up attempt was interupted due to a power failure or because the Power or Reset button was pressed, or if you aren't sure what caused the problem, choose Start Windows Normally.

    Safe Mode
    Safe Mode with Networking
    Safe Mode with Command Prompt

    Last Known Good Configuration

    Start Windows Normally

I have not made any recent hardware or software changes. When I have tried either Last Known Good Configuration or Start Windows Normally, the same thing happens, the blue dots go threw the bar a couple times and then it freezes.

If I try any of the safe modes, it runs a list of a few files and then stops on "multi(0)disk(0)partition(1)\Windows\System32\DRIVERS\agp440.sys

Does anybody know what is wrong with this thing or how to fix it? Any help would be greatly appriciated!!!

Insert your Windows XP CD-ROM into the computer CD-ROM drive or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer from the CD-ROM.

Note Some computers may require that you modify the basic input/output system (BIOS) settings before you can start the computer from a CD-ROM. For information about how to modify the BIOS, see your computer documentation.
At the Welcome to Setup screen, press R to start the Recovery Console.
Press the number key that corresponds to the installation that you want to repair, and then press ENTER.
Type the password for the administrator account of that installation, and then press ENTER. You receive a drive:WINDOWS> prompt, where drive is the drive on which Windows XP is installed.
Type listsvc, and then press ENTER.
Make sure that the Agp440 service is listed, and that the startup type is set to "Boot".
    Press ESC.
Type disable agp440, and then press ENTER.
You receive a message that the registry setting for this service was found, and that its current startup state is "service_disabled".
Type exit, and then press ENTER.
If you are prompted to start in Safe mode or Normal mode, start in Normal mode.

If the CDrom thingy doesn't boot right, then you have to edit the bios. when booting it will give an option to enter setup, press that key and look for a boot order. make sure that your CD/DVD drive is first in that order and try again
