windows wont install !!

Hey im havin a spot of bother on a mates pc i built a while ago for him its an Amd AthlonXP+ it had Xp on it and he buggered up the boot files so i am doin a fresh install i have changed the PSU because that blew up but it installs the Xp Pro and when finisishes up with seraching for nehardware it just freezes and i have changed cables/hard drive/RAM and even used a different XP disc even Win98 what the hell could it be?

Could it be the DVDRW drive? Any ideas?

right there because of this it could be anything i suspect the motherboard is NOT good anymore....

 

Would that be it you think? as it installs everything and runs everything i thought it might just be a dogdy DVD drive reading badley because i just tried to install a different XP disc and it wont find the i386 directory which is clearly on the disc! it was a capacitor it the PSU that popped i checked it!
