I don't know if this should be here or in the malware forum since I believe that is what caused it in the first place. I put it here because I'm assuming it's now a problem with the hard drive but I really have no clue.

Currently my computer won't load. It goes to the message "loading descriptor for pbr 4...done" and won't go past that. Can not boot into safe mode.
I got some advise on another website and in the end what it boiled down to was I need to reinstall everything and lose all my files.
I'm a total idiot, had some tax related files on there that I did not back up and need a copy.
My basic focus now is now to hopefully find any way to access those files. Except of course paying someone hundreds of dollars to try and retrieve them. I really like to not have to resort to that option.
I'd of course like to eventually fix the computer.

Basic story (I don't know if it will help or not):
One day computer starting shutting down every program. Message pop up saying "File system on local disk C: contains critical errors". Then more pop up different error messages. Desktop icons disappeared and start menu was basically empty. Only accessible things on computer were internet explorer and control panel.

Did some googling and ended up downloading malwarebytes through their cameleon thing since it wouldn't work the normal way. Quick scan found a couple things. Deep scan found more. Let it fix the problems. After restarting computer still had no access to anything.

Below is based on advice from other site:
Downloaded dds and ran it. First time ran the the computer shut down giving me a blue screen and chkdisk started. The message was something like type file system is NTFS and the volume is dirty.
    Ran fine the next time.

Ran screen317's Security Check version 0.99.61 and have the results of it.

Used unhide.exe program and some icons came back.

Tried to create system restore point and got "System Restore is not able to protect your computer". System restore was turned on.

    I ran JunkWare Removal Tool.

Tried to run Combofix. Tried running it three times. Every time it would get the part where it says creating log file and the computer would go to a blue screen with an error message about kernel_ stack_inpage_error.

Fourth time when I restarted the computer is when it wouldn't load and I got the loading pbr for descriptor 4 message.

Tried to run fixmbr from recovery console but didn't when I got this message "This computer appears to have a non standard or invalid master boot record.
Fixmbr may damage your partion tables if you proceed. This could cause all the partitions on the current hard disk to become inaccessible."

Used Kaspersky Rescue Disk 10. It found 7 files but couldn't fix or quarantine them. I ended up deleting them. They were 6 Trojan Downloader Java Agent.FV (or .fu or .ft) and the other says HEUR:Exploit.Java.CVe-2012-05-7.GEN

Used recovery console to run fixmbr \Device\HardDisk0 but computer still hangs at loading descriptor message.

Tried the disable onboard controller thing in the BIOS menu, didn't work.

Tried unplugging all USB items and restarting, didn't work.

If it helps I have logs for all things ran but the Junkware Removal Tool.

    Any advice would be appreciated!!

The only thing I can suggest is to try a Linux based bootable CD like GParted or Parted Magic as both have file managers with which you might be able to recover the tax files you spoke of to a second NTFS partition you create using the partitioning software on the CD.

Then, for safety purposes, DON'T reinstall java!!

It would help to know the following things:

What version of the Windows OS you are using?

What advice did you follow and what was done to the PC?

Is this a commercial PC? (I mean, like HP or Dell, and not one custom built)

Do you have any restore CD/DVD?

Even with this information, and from what you have outlined, it seems doubtful you will be able to recover normal operation of the computer and also keep your files.

If all you need to do at this point is to recover some files off the hard drive, then I suggest putting the hard drive into an external enclosure and connecting it to another, fully functional computer running Win 7 or at the least XP Pro. Bear in mind the host computer's OS needs to be fully updated, running updated anti-virus and anti-malware programs, and locked down to prevent auto-run. If it belongs to a friend you need to tell them it is a corrupted hard drive and has been found to be infected with a host of net-nasties, so they know to take steps to avoid infection.

When I am asked to recover files in cases like this, I use a "sacrificial" computer that I keep regular back up images for, and have modified to actually connect the target drive to the motherboard.

If you mean from your post that you have reformatted the hard drive, then it's doubtful you will be able to recover any files that were present before the format. Progarms exist that claim to be able to do this . . . the free ones have a low success rate. Linux based programs are probably your best option.
